Radiant Resilience: Lauren's Story

Lauren has completed 8 out of 12 chemo treatments, and if all goes according to schedule, the last treatment will be on Monday, July 29. It’s been a long road, and we’re very much looking forward to crossing the finish line.

The last couple of chemo treatments have definitely been harder for Lauren. The chemo is the same, but Lauren’s body doesn’t have the same resilience as it did at the start of the treatments. The care that Lauren receives at Children’s Hospital is absolutely amazing, and the staff are incredible.

Before every other treatment, Lauren’s blood is tested to ensure she can continue receiving chemo. Her creatinine levels have not been great, and Lauren is encouraged to drink lots of water (who knew that coffee is not a substitute for water…). The good news is that her neutrophil levels have stabilized and are sufficient to continue treatments.

Emma was there for treatment 6, Sarah and Sara for 7, and Aunt Care for number 8. It’s great for Lauren to be distracted from the treatment, and it makes the day go by much faster.

Lauren participated in a Langley Riders event, resulting in some proud and not-so-proud moments.

For Lauren, June and July will be busy months. On Sunday, June 23, Lauren will profess her faith—a very special moment for her, her family, and friends.

On Tuesday, June 25, Lauren and the rest of her grade 12 class will graduate from Credo Christian High School. The next day, the grad banquet will be held at Langley Golf Centre, followed by a grad party at the Scholten’s.

On Friday, July 12, Liam and Tianna are getting married, and on another happy note, Nadia and Luke are expecting a baby. Lauren is looking forward to getting a sister-in-law and becoming an aunt.
